THE WFF UNIVERSE

This event was the other half of the huge 2 day event held in Baden, near Vienna, Austria, on June 10th, 2001.

I held this report until I could tell you that all the videos from this contest are now edited with copies ready to go! Tina will put full details on the site with photos during the coming week. It has been a marathon job editing 190 competitors (who competed in the 34 different classes) into 5 separate videos. Three for the men and two for the women. The tapes are mostly long and thanks to the superb lighting and our special camera platform, brilliant quality.

The contest was held in a format similar to a typical pro show in that there was a symmetry round , a comparisons round, posing by every competitor and then the awards. This is exactly what you will seen in every class in all 5 videos. No posing routines were cut short during editing and no comparisons have been left out, it is an absolute smorgasbord of ripped muscle – a bodybuilding BONANZA! In this video you WON’T see – synthol injections, muscle implants, acned skin, belly bloat.

What you will see is the most magnificently muscular, ripped, conditioned, symmetrical bodybuilders in the world today.  As the competitors were primarily European with a few Australians as well, it was unusual and rather surprising that there was not a single black bodybuilder in the whole event. I only mention this as it was such a rare happening. Full results are listed on our site, so here’s a few comments about the athletes who most impressed me, with apologies to those class winners and 2nd place getters, who although deserving, are too numerous to mention.

THE MEN

GMV-426 Tape #1: Juniors / Performance / Athletic / Superbody / Men’s Fitness Under30 / Over 30 / Over 40 (108 mins)
GMV-427 Tape #2: Men’s Performance Under 30 / Over 30 / Over 40 (65 mins)
GMV-428 Tape #3: Men’s Athletic Under 30 / Over 30 / Over 40 / Superbody Under 30 / Over 30 / over 40) (144 mins)

Tape #1

In the Junior Classes the standout winners were ASLAN ADA of Turkey, RENE SCHULZE of Germany and DIMITRIS PANTELIADIS of Greece. The youngest competitor was a 17 year old German with fantastic potential.

Men’s Fitness was a titanic battle between the blond young Austrian winner BERND ÖSTERLE and LARS KASPER of Germany. The other section winner to impress me was INGOLF LAUNUS of Germany in the Over 30’s. I realise most of these names are completely unknown outside of Europe, so you are in for a treat when you view this series of videos. As a final note, this was the first time I have ever seen 2 guys jostle each other during comparisons! It was only prejudging, so check out these two testosterone driven Juniors in Tape #1.

Tape #2

Men’s Performance is a combination of ripped, symmetrical physique combined with an outstanding and usually innovative posing routine. This is probably the most exciting class as it was packed with incredible routines. Stars included SVEN KASPER of Germany who just edged out DIMITRIJ CHIZKOV of Russia and the German duo SASCHA PLASA in a close decision over PATRICK HEISEL. CHIZKOV had a superb “V” shape and is destined for top honours in bodybuilding.

Tape #3

Men’s Athletic and Superbody rounded out the men’s classes with Superbody roughly meaning the standard physique class, but without belly-bloat or other ugly negatives. The emphasis being still based on symmetry, definition plus good size and shape. Top performers included the brilliant Russian DIMITRIJ YASHANKIN over Switzerland’s ROMAN SENTI and MASSIMO MONACO of Italy narrowly defeating defending World Champion BORIS SHAMRAEV of Russia.

In the Superbody division, there were 3 absolutely sensational section winners in JENS PLASCZYK of Germany, CHRISTIAN KLEE of Austria and the smiling Russian, DIMITRI ZOLIN.

GMV-429 Tape #1: Aerobic Fitness / Juniors / 18 & 21 / Athletic / Over 30 / Over 40 to the end of the posing round) (101 mins)

 GMV-430 Tape #2: Comparisons & Awards for the above / Women’s Performance / Athletic / Superbody / Over 30 / Over 40 / Pairs Fitness / Pairs Athletic) (125 mins)

Where does one start! There was not an out of shape woman in the whole contest and it must have been a judge’s nightmare. In the Aerobic Athletic division ROMINA PAOLI of Italy, but now resident in Baden, presented a sensational routine based around dance, strength and aerobics to showcase here wonderful physique. The routine was not heavily based on gymnastics, which many fitness women find hard to achieve at a high level. Romina’s routine was constructed in a way which should be a guide to other fitness women. A perfect mix of physique, style and aerobic athleticism. JANA MÜLLER of Germany was a wonderful winner in a very large class in Women’s Fitness.

In fact this section was dominated by Germany with the Beautiful CORINNA MAYER winning the Over 30 section and INGRID ADAM clearly the best in the Over 40’s. In the Women’s Performance classes I saw some amazing routines and incredible bodies. Superstars such as the gorgeous, serene, stunning and multi-titled CLAUDIA MÜHLHAUS of Germany, the consummate professional.

Then the statuesque and charismatic star from Russia – SVETLANA PUGACHEVA who performed a knockout routine. SYLVIE ESMENJAUD of France has been winning World titles since 1990 and she made it back to back world titles once again. We also interviewed her in our FIBO Women’s video, shot about 6 weeks before.  In the Superbody class, POPI TSINTARI was an exciting new bodybuilding champion. I was personally thrilled to see TERRI ROBERTS of Australia claim her first international title with a near flawless body in the best condition of her life.

Finally it was the Pairs, with awards in 2 sections being Pairs Fitness and Pairs Athletic. In the fitness section, the Germans MAYER and TRIENBACHER were superb and most worthy winners. In the Athletic section it was second huge first place trophy for the night to TATJANA ALEXEJEWA and her Russian physique star partner NIKOLAI KONOWALOW.
Thus ended a magnificent championship which presented an awesome array of mostly new physique stars, never seen on video before. I can’t wait for next year!

GMV INTERVIEW

GMV recently had an article published about us on another web site in Australia, namely the M-Plex site. In their interview with us it traced a brief history from my beginnings in the sport back in the 1960’s through to the present. See their article at http://www.mplex.com.au/mpower/Volume1-Issue6/v1i602.htm

OLYMPIA NEWS

I just received an email from JULIETTE BERGMANN of Holland advising me of her comeback in the 2001 Ms. Olympia Lightweight Class this year. We have a video shoot planned with her in Las Vegas and wish her every success. She competed in the event many times some years ago and has placed high. With her superb symmetry and a near perfect package of size and shape, I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins the title.
