The 1987 NABBA World Championships was a classic event with the tall class winner Basil Francis also having won the 1987 NABBA Overall Amateur Mr. Universe one week before. 1987 UBBA Mr. Australia: Men - The Show including Couples
Australia's premier event, the UBBA National Championships for men and women was held in Geelong, Victoria at The Arena. It was prejudging on September 5th and the Show Finals on the 6th. The UBBA was the earlier name for NABBA Australia with the open class winners going on to represent Australia at the NABBA Universe in London.
Between the men's and women's DVDs see 62 of Australia's finest young champions.
The overall contest was won by GARY LEWER giving him his second national title.

The AAU Mr. America was a prestigious bodybuilding competition started by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). It had a long history and was first held on 4 July 1939 where the winner was named "America's Best Built Man". In 1940 this was changed to what is now known as the Mr. America contest. Held in Malmo, Sweden, one of the greatest field of pros assembled in Sweden, Scandinavia to fight it out for supremacy in this northern part of Europe. It was the best professionals around from USA and Europe from the early 80s. What an upset when Mohamed Makkawy toppled the great Lee Haney for one of his rare defeats. In the heavyweight class it was a battle of the giants between a young, ripped and superb Berry de Mey, a mature and sensational Bob Paris and a huge Ralf Moeller of Germany who ended up in third place. Ralf literally dwarfed the others during the posedown. I do not know how close it was on the judges' sheets but in my mind it was a toss up and could have gone either way between the top two.

1982 NABBA Universe - Amateur & Professional
The main stars of this event were Eduardo Kawak of Lebanon, Kal Szkalak and John Brown from USA, John Terilli from Australia and Terry Phillips from England.
In the Women’s International Bikini class the red hot favourite was Jocelyn Pigeonneau who did not let her fans down. John Terilli's class victory was the first ever Universe victory by an Australian competitor. John later won the NABBA Pro Universe in 1994.
Ed Kawak won the Universe 5 times during his illustrious career and is pictured front cover in his signature pose. This record of 5 titles was later equalled by Eddy Ellwood who won his 5 Universe titles consecutively. 1981 World Games Bodybuilding Championships
The event was staged at the new San Jose Center for Performing Arts on August 1st, 1981. The contest took place before a packed house with the promoter being former bodybuilding champion Paul Love.
The main stars were John Kemper, Jaques Neuville, James Youngblood, Jesse Gautreaux, Ulf Bengtsson, Renato Bertagna and Joe Distinti just to name a few. The current Mr. Australia, Billy Knight placed 2nd behind James Youngblood of USA in the Middleweight Class.
Kike Elomaa, Pam Brooks and Carla Dunlap starred in the women’s classes. Kike Elomaa subsequently became Ms Olympia 1981 and Carla Dunlap became Ms Olympia 1983. V-150DVD |
