1986 NABBA Mr & Miss Midlands & Oscar Awards - Show!! 1986 NABBA Mr & Miss Midlands & Oscar Awards - Show. The Oscar Awards was a Pro-Am type class, held in tribute to the NABBA legend, Oscar Heidenstam. It attracted such big USA stars as VINCE TAYLOR and MARLON DARTON, plus local star VINCE D'ALESSANDRO and more. The Marlon Darton photos were taken by Wayne Gallasch in USA, shortly before this contest. The Oscar Awards winner was MARLON DARTON and VINCE D'ALLESANDRO was the Overall Mr Midlands winner. Joe Weider & Nasser El Sonbaty - RIP. Nasser El Sonbaty, October 15, 1965 – March 20, 2013. We are sad to report that the many times Mr Olympia competitor and 1999 Arnold Classic Champ Nasser El Sonbaty has passed away on March 20th. Born in Germany, his father was Egyptian and his mother was Serbian. Nasser qualified for the Olympia an amazing ten times. He placed second in the Olympia to Dorian Yates in 1997, a contest that many said Nasser should have won. I will always remember shooting the 1998 Finnish GP where Nasser at his peak finished 3rd behind Ronnie and Kevin Levrone. We also have Nasser in a number of our own FIBO DVDs. El Sonbaty won the Arnold Classic in 1999 and competed in over 50 IFBB Pro shows. It is reported that he died of kidney failure. Rest in Peace Nasser. You always did things your way. We have also made a PHOTO GALLERY today from the 1998 FINNISH GRAND PRIX and added our best photos of Nasser. See GMV-310DVD. Joe Weider, RIP. Joe Weider died of heart failure on the morning of March 23, 2013 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 93. Josef (Joe) Weider was born in Montreal, Canada on November 29th, 1919, one of four children of Polish immigrants. Joe Weider was a legendary fitness figure, bodybuilding publisher, founder of the Olympia contests, and is considered the father of the sport of bodybuilding. He was a weight training pioneer, visionary and fitness crusader all of his life. Joe also introduced Arnold Schwarzenegger to USA. GMV interviewed Joe in the Pump Room at the 2000 Mr Olympia, see GMV-387DVD. At the 2003 Olympia, we recorded Joe chatting with the top Pros backstage in the 2003 Prejudging Pump Room, see GMV-559DVD. At the 2011 Olympia we recorded Joe for the last time, posing backstage with many of the women in the pump room, see GMV-826DVD.

The stars included Brian Buchanan, Vince Brown, Eugene Laviscount, Andrew Webb, Ivon Jackson, John Pegler, Christine Hall and Joanne Day. 2013 IFBB Australia Pro Grand Prix Results!! 2013 IFBB Australia Pro Grand Prix Results. A week after his 4th victory at the Arnold Classic, Dexter Jackson did it all again, with his record making victory at the Australian Pro Grand Prix in Melbourne. This gives him the Aussie record of 4 victories at this event. Candice Keene took out the Pro Figure and India Paulino won the new Pro Bikini class, held for the first time at this FitX event weekend. The DVD are being edited now. Dexter Jackson makes history at the 25th anniversary of the Arnold Classic when he tied Flex Wheeler’s record of four victories at this famous event. In 2nd place and winner of the "Most Muscular" Award, was top IFBB Pro Ben Pakulski. Winner of the "Best Poser" Award was Fred Smalls and Rich Gaspari received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Arnold Strongman Winner was new guy Vytautas Lalas. We will have the DVDs of the event as soon as they are released. Mat Duvall RIP & 9th Miss World Figure Grand Prix!! Mat Duvall RIP. Today I have just heard that former IFBB professional bodybuilder Mat Duvall has been found dead in his bathroom on Friday, 22 February. Mat was only 40 years old. The exact cause of his death is not known at this stage. I had seen Mat several time at Olympia Expos, and in 2003 at the Olympia Expo, he told us he had recently become a pro. We interviewed him and he hit some massive arms poses for us. I subsequently put him on the front cover of that DVD.  See here for more details on the MUSCLE MEN AT THE 2003 OLYMPIA, GMV-562DVD. Mat had been one of the genuine stars of the NPC in his amateur career and later retired from pro bodybuilding to try his hand at professional wrestling. We also have Mat in the DVD with Dave Palumbo called RECONSTRUCTION OF A BODYBUILDER, A-1112DVD. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Duvall family. 1996 9th Miss World Figure Grand Prix. Diane Jardim of Australia was the eventual winner of this GP from Susana Palma of Spain. The beautiful German Sabine Weeke placed 3rd. John Norman Komich, RIP. Norm Komich - RIP Apr 02, 1944 - January 21, 2013. It is with great sadness that I report the passing on January 21st of my good friend John Norman "Norm" Komich, at the age of 68. He suffered a massive heart attack. Norm Komich was a huge iron game enthusiast and historian. He and I rubbed shoulders at the 1980 Mr. Olympia contest in the Sydney Opera House when Arnold won his final Olympia title. Norm and I filmed from different parts of the hall that day and he later shared with me the parts of the awards that were missing from my own camera work. You could not find a more generous person. Norm also filmed the early Olympias on the East Coast. I last had dinner with Norm and his son John at the 2010 AOBS dinners in New Jersey. He was a regular attendee at the annual AOBS reunions. Although he never talked about it to me, Norm was a U.S. Veteran having served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Subsequently he was employed as a pilot for various commercial airlines until his retirement. Norm Komich is survived by his wife Joy and son Johnathan. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Komich family.

It was a major purchase back in early 1972 when this setup sold for several thousand dollars. It was the Rolls Royce of pro cameras for its time. This camera was used on all of Wayne's most famous photo shoots in the 70s and 80s - with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sergio Oliva, Frank Zane, Mike Mentzer, Casey Viator, Bill Pearl, Manuel Perry, Tom Platz, Berry de Mey, Danny Padilla, Richard Baldwin, Lance Dreher, Chet Yorton, Chris Dickerson, Bill Grant, Ray Mentzer, Serge Nubret, Charles Glass, Samir Bannout, Bertil Fox, Bob Saad, Warren Frederick, John Kemper, Kay Baxter, Cory Everson, just to name a few.
