Wayne's Hard News now posted - Synthol Exposed!! When it comes to good old fashioned bodybuilding, you still find that nothing will build muscle size better than the use of basic barbells and dumbbells, plus a few machines for variety. Good honest blood sweat and tears has never been out of vogue if you want lasting success. As Dave Draper would say, bombing and blasting may seem old fashioned -- like very hard work. However it sure got lasting results back then, and still does today. The new trend is for instant added muscle via the injection needle. I am referring to SYNTHOL. I hate to see synthol lumps and outlines on great physiques who simply do not need to go down this path. I would like to share with you this article on modern day synthol abuse. My thanks to Jeffrey R. Chamberlin. The use of synthol is one of the biggest scourges of modern day bodybuilding. I only hope that bodybuilding judges will seriously mark down all competitors who show obvious use of synthol. Only then will competitors get the message. At least some of them. 1998 Iron Man Pro Invitational now on DVD!! In keeping with our policy to bring to DVD all the classic old Iron Man Pro series of videos, here is the latest release. It stars FLEX WHEELER who showed up in the best shape of his life - 229 lbs on his 5'10" frame. He was fuller yet as wickedly ripped and detailed as ever. His arms were said by many to be the most perfectly shaped in bodybuilding at this time. It was his 5th victory in a row, making this event his own. Darrem Charles scored a close 2nd over Aaron Baker, and all 3 qualified for the '98 Mr Olympia. There is not a lot of video footage on Aaron Baker of "Huge Arms" fame, making this DVD one of the best records available on him.   Of special note, two new Aussie Pros made it to the top 10 in Kevin O'Grady and Grant Clemesha. Dennis James out of the 2007 Mr Olympia!! At the recent NABBA World Championships in Malta, Dennis James and his family were there to support their good friend Charles Duca from Australia. After the event I had a good chat with Dennis who I have known since his amateur days. He is back living and working in Germany, the country of his birth. Dennis looked in superb condition and told me he was on track for his 8th straight Olympia appearance. Dave Draper on his experiences at Joe Weider day in Sacramento!! I have known Dave Draper as a friend for a very long time. He was the first famous USA bodybuilder to make a posing tour of Australia, back in 1967. I had the good fortune to meet Dave on stage during that trip when he presented me with a runner's up trophy at our state bodybuilding championships. Too bad I did not train a bit harder! Strongman photos and points scores added to new Battles of Strength DVD product page!! We are pleased to be able to add some excellent action photos to the product page for our new Battles of Strength Strongman DVD which was released a few days ago. Plus points scores from the Arnold Strongman Classic. For all the details on V-206DVD, please click here. Just to whet your appetite, here are a few highlights. In the Apollon's Wheels lift, 366 lbs, Savickas brought the weight to his shoulders 8 times and easily push pressed it to arms length each time. In the Timber Lift, Andrus Murumets created a new record of carrying the 865 lbs timbers up the 36' incline ramp is an amazing 6.87 seconds. In the Circus Dumbell lift (202 lbs with a 3" thick handle) Vasyl Virastyuk won this event with 6 repetitions in the time limit, being 3 each with his left and right hands.

1989 NABBA Universe - 3 classic videos now on DVD!! This was the last Universe to be held in the famous Wembley Conference Centre in London. Wembley has been the ancestral home of top bodybuilding contests in England for many years. 102 superbly muscled, ripped and buffed athletes completed  - the largest field of competitors ever seen at the Universe at that time.   In the AMATEUR DIVISION, the Short Class 3 winner was the current Mr.America - MATT DUFRESNE. In a very close decision at the evening show Matt took the overall title of AMATEUR Mr. Universe for 1989. You also get to see REG PARK in these DVDs. In the JUNIOR Mr. Universe Class it was a very tightly fought battle between the 2 Aussies,MICHAEL MELKSHAM, PETER WALL and the ripped young CLINT DYE of England. ROGER CALLARD, TONY PANDOLFO, MIKE SABLE & JIM TARLTON now on DVD!! This is one of Wayne's classic Californian features from the late 70s-early 80s, filmed outdoors and capturing the atmosphere and magic of Muscle Beach. ROGER CALLARD was filmed in 1977 at the legendary "Muscle Rocks",  just after he won his class in the IFBB American Bodybuilding Championships. 1992 IFBB German Grand Prix now on DVD!! This classic Grand Prix was held in Duisburg, Germany on 20th September 1992, just days after DORIAN YATES' historic victory in the '92 Olympia. Dorian was the first non-American resident to win the Mr. Olympia crown and in this DVD he is the sensational guest poser together with ACHIM ALBRECHT and YOLANDA HUGHES. The star studded blast from the past is worthy of an Olympia contest with 16 of the world's best bodybuilders competing. This was the first Grand Prix victory for KEVIN LEVRONE and the GP is specially significant for 2 other reasons. Sadly this was the last Grand Prix video appearance of MOMO BENAZIZA who died soon after this event. It was also one of the last appearances of Sonny Schmidt who passed away some years ago. 2001 IFBB Iron Man Pro Invitational now on DVD!! Held in the superb Redondo Beach Performing Arts Centre before a sell-out crowd, this famous Pro Show kicked off the season with 24 fantastic competitors. It was a 3-peat victory for “The Real Deal” Chris Cormier, in the best condition of his life. In second place was the posing maestro "Marvellous" Melvin Anthony and in third place, newcomer "King" Kamali. The King also performed a wonderful routine that brought the house down. IFBB Pro Kris Dim rushed to hospital for emergency surgery!! Kris Dim whilst training today suffered a split in his aortic valve and was rushed to hospital, patients that suffer from this have a 40% chance of dying immediately and usually a 20% chance of not surviving immediate surgery. Latest updates are saying that he has beaten these odds and is out of surgery and is moving everything and is coherent. GMV would like to wish him a very speedy recovery and we hope to see him back once again competing at the top level.

Sylvester Stallone fined by Australian Customs!! Sylvester Stallone fell foul of Australian Customs when he visited our country recently. He tried to bring in some human growth hormone. It’s strictly against the law in Australia to bring in such substances even if they are for personal use. Poor old Sly got fines and costs totalling in excess of AUST$14,000. There’s a lesson here. If you are a bodybuilder and coming over to see us, don’t even think about bringing any steroids, HGH, or similar substances with you. It’s very costly, and because all bags are x-rayed on entry in to Australia, you will get caught. Australian customs are equally touchy on food items.  Best to declare it. If you can’t bring it in, they will tell you, and you’ll have to throw it away and there’s no harm done;  If you try to bring in any food items and you haven’t declared them, it will cost you - big time. A well known physique model and fast rising star of the late ‘70’s, Tony oils and then flexes. From his full posing routine to closeup posing of bodyparts to extreme closeups of full screen muscular detail. Tony is 5’ 7" (170 cm) and 190 lbs (86.5kg). He is famous for his lat spread and tiny waist. Serge Lerus - Mr. France and Mr. World. Filmed outdoors in Holland on the morning after he competed in the 1975 IFBB Mr. Europe Contest. While Serge’s ripped and mean physique is oiled he tenses and flexes for our camera. He then pumps and poses, bringing out every sinew in his super defined physique. Branch Warren Wins the 2007 IFBB New York Pro!! Ending a run of disappointing placings, Warren fought off tough competition in Dennis James to win the 2007 New York Pro by the narrowest of margins on Saturday night. The Millennium Universe of 2000 was a classic event with a record number of countries represented. It included 13 ripped and muscular women in the Physique Class from 8 different countries. The Figure Classes were excellent - 7 in the Short Class brilliantly won by Loretta McMillan of Australia, against the lovely and symmetrical Maribel Montalvo of USA; and a huge line-up of 17 athletes in the Tall Figure Class. The outstanding overall FIGURE  WINNER - Giovanna Rosa of Italy - eclipsed the field, including 2nd place Brigitte Crepieux of France, a former World Champion. Gordon Scott, Hercules actor RIP!! Gordon Scott was an American actor best known for his portrayal of Tarzan in five films. Scott also played Hercules in a couple of low-budget productions during the mid-1960s. His final film appearance was in The Tramplers, filmed in 1966, released in the U.S. in 1968. For the past two decades, he has been a popular guest at film conventions and autograph shows. Born Gordon M. Werschkull on August 3, 1927 in Portland, Oregon, Gordon Scott was raised in Oregon and attended the University of Oregon for one year. Upon leaving school he went into the United States Army and was honourably discharged in 1947. Due in part to his muscular frame and 6'3" height, he was quickly signed to replace Lex Barker as Tarzan. He was also a friend of Hercules star Steve Reeves, and collaborated with him as Remus to Reeves' Romulus in Duel of the Titans (1961). We are sad to report that Gordon died yesterday on April 30, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland. Our sincere condolences to the Scott family.

Ray "Thunder" Stern passes away at 74!! I am very sad to report the recent death of my friend Ray "Thunder" Stern at the age of 74. Several months ago I sat chatting with Ray and Kenny Kassel in Bob Bonham's Gym in NJ. Ray had flown in for a workout and seemed in fine spirits. We all chatted for an hour about bodybuilding and about Ray's early days as a skinny kid and how he went on to become a famous wrestler. I will treasure that last meeting. Some years ago I filmed Ray interviewing his wife Debbi Lee for us at FIBO. When I track down which FIBO that was I will post the information on our site. Our sincere sympathy to Debi and his family. Graeme Lancefield of Australia was the first ever winner of this class.   Of special interest is a very young Mastafa Mohammad placing 2nd in class 2.
