Death of my good friend and GMV team member Kenny Kassel!! I am shocked and terribly sad to report the death on Christmas Eve of Kenny Kassel. Kenny has been a great friend of mine over the last 10 years and has been an extremely valuable member of the GMV team during the last 5 years where he has been our interviewer. In that time he has interviewed around 100 athletes for me. Kenny has been a long time IFBB official and great friend to all bodybuilders. He has helped as an expediter, which is how we met backstage at the 1999 Mr Olympia, has emceed events, and had his own talent agency. The attached photo with Cathy LeFrancois was taken after an interview he did for me at the 2008 Iron Man LA FitExpo. I will be writing a full tribute to Kenny and what his friendship has meant to me. Danny Padilla elected to the IFBB Hall of Fame!! Our congratulations to Danny Padilla on this recent and well deserved honour. Danny, now 57, won the 1970 Mr. Rochester competition and then went on to win Mr. U.S.A. at Madison Square Garden in 1975, the Mr. America, and Mr. Universe in 1977 and on to the Mr Olympia. The 5-foot-2 ½-“ champion was called "The Giant Killer" because he always defied the odds and defeated much taller and bigger bodybuilders of his time. He was subsequently the first short man(under 5’3”) to win a major title. To qualify for this IFBB award, the athlete must have made "a major and lasting contribution to bodybuilding and fitness." Danny is a most worthy recipient of this award. Wayne twice had the privilege of working with Danny in CA in the Golden 70s. 2008 WNBF Natural State Champs, new Olympia covers, Aussie wins a Pro Universe title!! 2008 WNBF South Australian Championships DVD now released!! This is our first ever World Natural Bodybuilding Federation release and features some of the best natural bodybuilders in South Australia. The event was staged by Hayzer Cali, a world class international WNBF Natural Pro bodybuilder who placed 6th in his class in New York about 10 days ago. Many different classes from Schoolboys through to Masters were competed at the South Australian championships. The amazing JUNIOR CLASS winner Matthew Brunoli subsequently took out the OVERALL MEN’S BODYBUILDING TITLE. This is a most unusual feat for one so young, and augers well for the future career of young Matthew in this sport. Death of Ray Routledge, 1961 NABBA Mr Universe, R.I.P.  We are sad to report the recent death of the 1961 Overall Amateur NABBA Mr. Universe winner Ray Routledge. He passed away after a long battle with cancer in San Bernardino, California on November 12th at the age of 77. On the same day he won his NABBA Amateur Universe crown, Bill Pearl took out the Professional Universe title, making it a double for USA. Sadly I have no film or video of Ray as far as I can tell from my archives. If I come across any old contest film he is in, it will appear in a future edition of my Classic Collection DVD series. Please click here.    Ray was also the 1958 AAU Jr. Mr America winner. As the 1961 AAU Mr. America winner, he received a trip to UK to compete in the NABBA Universe several months later. 1999 SABBA South Australian Bodybuilding Championships now on DVD!! 2008 ACT INBA Natural Championships DVD now released!! Harry has been a friend of GMV over the last 30 plus years and has competed internationally at the highest level during his illustrious career. 2008 South Australian INBA Natural Physique & Figure Titles now released!! Bodybuilding icon Ben Weider passed away Friday, October 17th!! Ben Weider, the founder of the IFBB and the Canadian who helped turn bodybuilding into a worldwide sport, died on Friday, 17th October in Montreal, Canada aged 85. Ben and his brother, Joe, turned their love of bodybuilding into a billion-dollar business that included nutritional supplements, gyms, equipment, and magazines such as "Flex" and "Muscle & Fitness." In 1946, Ben Weider and his brother co-founded the IFBB, which over the years has sanctioned thousands of amateur and professional bodybuilding competitions around the world. Ben will be greatly missed. We offer our sympathy to the extended Weider family and the bodybuilding fraternity in general.

1994 NABBA Universe: The Men’s Prejudging now on DVD!! At  this NABBA Universe time of the year, it is appropriate to release one of the gems from the past years of the Universe. Today’s release is the 1994 NABBA Universe Men’s Prejudging from Birmingham, England.
