Brian Chamberlain is the Next Generation DVD GMV-649DVD Review by Gerry Triano.
Filmed by: Wayne Gallasch, GMV Productions Photography by Wayne Gallasch, assisted by photographer Rob Bailey

DVD Running Time, approximately 2 hours including Extra Features

This DVD was filmed at Bob Bonham's huge Strong and Shapely Gym in New Jersey, 2 days after Brian competed in the Atlantic City Pro Show in September, 2006. The DVD shows IFBB Pro Brian Chamberlain during his full body workout in the gym, as well as on and off stage posing, and an interview conducted by Wayne. Also featured is Brian's training partner, top NPC athlete Eric McGee.

Extras include a photo slide show of Brian and Eric, plus separate studio posing sessions of Brian and Eric, and also Brian posing on stage in his pro debut at the 2005 Charlotte Pro. Also featured is Brian's debut as an interviewer chatting with Eric. Eric McGee is 29 years old, a former football player and was 6 weeks out from competing in a national qualifying event at that time. (He subsequently won the contest.)Brian makes the humorous observation that until he had met Eric, he had gone through training partners like underwear. But now he finally found a good fit for himself in Eric who displays great staying power and reliability!

Brian is interviewed by Wayne Gallasch, and parts of the interview are shown in between training segments. Brian talks about his competition debut as a 17 year old lightweight, and his first overall win at 20 in a New Jersey show. As a middleweight he won the overall Pennsylvania title and started national level competition.

He earned pro status winning the overall at the 2004 North American as a light heavyweight. As a pro, he was 7th at Charlotte and runner up in the 2005 Olympia Wild Card event. In 2006, he was 8th in Montreal and 6th in Atlantic City. He is right on the doorstep of Olympia qualification.

The various body part workouts are intense, as he and Eric go through abs, then chest and delt routines. They both do some posing between sets. Brian said he developed his massive legs through early participation in sports like track and snowboarding. Now he continually strives to bring his upper body up to the level of his leg development, which is evident here. Also shown are Brian and Eric working legs, triceps, biceps, and back. Although not shown, Brian states that he has incorporated cardio into his regimen since 1998.

Many different angles are shown on each exercise with lots of intensity, plus tensing and posing of the body part being worked after virtually every set. The DVD is just outstanding and hopefully I have communicated that in this review.

Brian is very personable, articulate and has a real sense of humour. He tells an anecdote about his wife Julie hiding junk food so he would not see it during contest preparation.  She is 5'10" and he is 5'3" so he could not reach her high up hiding places. After hiring Chad Nicholls as a nutritionist (who allowed Brian a weekly cheat meal), his wife gave him some junk - in moderation. Brian and his wife recently became proud parents of a son, Brian Charles.

Wayne told me that they started shooting at 10AM and went through continuously till 5PM when it was finished, with only a one hour break for Brian and Eric to have some lunch and take a short nap on the gym floor. A very brief respite from the brutal nature of the shoot and their total exhaustion at the end!

This is a superbly filmed, perfectly lit DVD (as one comes to expect from GMV where Wayne has 40 years experience in shooting bodybuilding), and provides a good sense of Brian as an athlete, trainer and person. This is highly recommended for any fan of Brian's and for anyone wanting to see a great "how to workout" DVD.
