2006 IFBB San Francisco Grand Prix Pump Room DVD Review of A-1141DVD by Gerry Triano.

Terry Photo takes the viewer behind the scenes to the Pump Room activity prior to prejudging and to the evening show at the 2006 IFBB San Francisco Grand Prix (men's pro event). The DVD captures all the backstage activity leading up to the stage events in a well detailed and well filmed manner.
 
The viewer has a feeling of being there with the athletes as they pump up with weights and other apparatus, have their tanning and oiling agents applied and practice their posing. There seemed to be a keen mutual attraction between competitor Eryk Bui and the camera. Bui is photogenic and

was aware when the camera was on him, as he cooperatively posed and mugged.
 
An appealing aspect of the video is that the coverage was not solely focused on the favourites to contend for the title. Non finalists were liberally profiled as well. There were several segments with up and coming Australian competitor Beat Meschberger. Meschberger, formerly of Switzerland had terrific lines and conditioning and should place higher in future events.

Other notable competitors seen backstage included John Armstrong from the UK and Evgeny Mishin. You could not miss the mass of Heiko Kallbach which was always on display. Whether one likes Kallbach's physique or not, there is no dispute about how massive he is.
 
Another great touch is how scenes of the San Francisco area are incorporated. This serves as a good backdrop for the event. The scenes of the city were very well shot and add to the enjoyment of this DVD immensely. Also shown were competitors such as Derik Farnsworth and Beat Meschberger taking advantage of the good weather to pump and pose outdoors.
At the end, contest winner Gustavo Badell is shown backstage with his victory sword.
 
For anyone interested in seeing the backstage goings on of a pump room environment, this DVD captures the essence of it very well and is recommended. For anyone also interested in the on stage competition, this would also serve as a great companion DVD to GMV's coverage of the contest from prejudging through to the finals.
