1970 and 1971 Mr. Europe and Mr. Universe Contests - Page Updated.
Our blast from the past is this classic IFBB contest from the early 70s where we have updated our product page with extra information and a great photo of the winners.

In the 1970 IFBB Europe, stars include FRANCO COLUMBU the overall winner who beat SERGE NUBRET. Many other great stars were also in this contest. These were two of the first contests Wayne ever shot in Europe.

This week we received the interesting news of the competitors invited to compete in the 4 Professional Classes at the 2010 Arnold Classic.
In the Arnold Classic it seems to be a massive battle coming up between BRANCH WARREN, KAI GREENE, DEXTER JACKSON, PHIL HEATH and TONEY FREEMAN. Will they finish in that order - only time will tell!

Rod Koontz and Classic Contests - 1977 Mr. America, 1977 Mr. U.S.A.
It came to our sad attention today that Rod Koontz is really struggling in every aspect of his day to day life. Let's celebrate what a great star he was back in the late 70s and early 80s. It is so easy to be a champion in all of the magazines when you are at the peak of your career, and then find that nobody cares about you when you have retired from the sport that was once your whole life. This DVD is presented in two parts.

'77 AAU Mr. America - See the full posing routines of the top 9 men, just as the judges saw them. You'll see: Jeff King, Don Peterson, Tom Platz, Ron Teufel, Dave Johns, Doug Beaver, C.F. Smith, Clint Beyerle, Pete Grymkowski and Manuel Perry.

Includes some compulsories from the Prejudging. The late DAVE JOHNS won the title and then went on to win the 1978 NABBA Amateur Mr Universe crown. MAE WEST presented the trophy to Dave Johns.

1977 AAU Mr. U.S.A. - You'll see these stars of the 70s: Rod Koontz (pictured above left), Billy Arlen (pictured left), Richard Baldwin, Joe Means, Floyd Odom, Pat Neve and C.F. Smith.

These 2 Classic Contests were filmed by Wayne Gallasch on silent Super 8 film, transferred to video and then to DVD with background music added. They are the only known film records of these 2 wonderful events.

1985 AAU Junior Mr. & Miss America & Couples: The Show.
This DVD is notable for 2 special reasons. It is one of our rare AAU gems we offer on DVD and it's the first appearance of a future American international champion - double Mr. Universe winner VICTOR TERRA. This emerging young champion, VICTOR TERRA, achieved his first major victory in USA in this DVD.

2004 Olympia: Women's Complete Prejudging & Pump Room DVDs.

See the complete rounds for all three classes from the afternoon prejudging held in the Expo Hall. This is a rare treat in that usually the complete WOMEN'S PREJUDGING is not offered on DVD.

Our 2 cameras caught all the backstage action, class for class, as the women came into the pump room area. Arriving in groups, it really enabled us to capture all the oiling, pumping, posing and stretching that took place throughout the women's events.

1997 NABBA Australian Championships: The Men's Prejudging - 2 DVD set special deal.

Lee Priest Comeback.
I heard the great news at the weekend that it is most likely that Lee Priest will make his long awaited comeback to IFBB Pro competition at the 2010 Phoenix Pro on February 20th. Lee lived for a time in Arizona before returning to Australia. I know his many fans, not only in Arizona, but around the world will welcome his comeback.

This DVD is an absolute gem and lacked detailed information in our original description. In it you get the first 2 Mr. Olympias to be officially shot on video, being from 1982 and 1983.  The 1982 Mr Olympia in London includes Chris Dickerson (the winner), Frank Zane, Casey Viator, Tom Platz and Brutal Bertil Fox and more.
The 1983 Mr Olympia from Germany shows the amazing Samir Bannout at his all time peak as he takes 1st place, beating Lee Haney, Frank Zane and many more champions.
Battle For Gold (1988) includes great workout footage with Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari with appearances by a huge bunch of stars such as Gary Strydom, Samir Bannout, Vic Richards, Bob Paris, Tom Platz, Shawn Ray, Al Beckles, Berry de Mey and many more. Joe Meeko: Mr. Universe - Mr. America, RIP.

We are sad to report the death of our dear friend JOE MEEKO on December 8th, as a result of complications from Lyme disease. He was a popular Mr. Universe, Mr. America and Mr. USA winner who had the complete package of physique and blonde good looks.
 
We shot his DVD in London, right after the 1987 Mr. Universe contest. Joe displays rippling striated muscle, extreme vascularity, well separated density and probably the most symmetrical set of abs and serratus we have ever seen.

He won 4 Overall titles during his short career.
 
Over the years we always kept in touch and we sold Joe's own brand of barbell hand grippers at one stage. They were the best. We next saw Joe at the 2007 Ironage Reunion and Chuck Sipes Award in Columbus Ohio. Joe appears in this DVD and please click here for details on GMV-674DVD where he is pictured on the rear cover.

Another classic Australian Nationals contest staged at the Dallas Brooks Hall in Melbourne on 17th September, 1989, and featuring Australia's best male bodybuilding stars. This DVD brings you all of the highlights from the MEN’S PREJUDGING and includes all of the important routines and key comparisons.

The event attracted around 80 top competitors, men and women, and was shot with 2 cameras.  The contest was a qualifier for the London NABBA Universe and World Championships in Spain.
The Overall Winner of 1989 Mr. Australia was the magnificently symmetrical and rock hard BRUCE LEONG from Darwin in the NT.

1989 NABBA AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE SHOW.
The main Overall Winners on the night were Bruce Leong, Irene Nickole in Women’s Physique and Jackie McKnight in the Figure Class.
A Young Colin Hall as the SCHOOLBOYS WINNER showed enormous potential for the future. Michael Melksham, the Junior winner went on to win the Junior Mr. Universe title a few weeks later, and then later became a TV Gladiator.  Pictured on cover below.

This DVD brings you all of the highlights from the evening show along with the awards. The event attracted around 80 top competitors and includes pumping scenes and brief interviews with some of the stars. Shot with 2 cameras.

1994 NABBA World Championships: The Show.
 Held in Belgium on the 11th of June, 1994, the 3 new young stars to emerge included the handsome young blond Russian Junior, KONSTANTIN POUTCHKOV; the overall men's winner KLAUS TOMANDL (Germany) and Australia's GRANT CLEMESHA, Class 1 winner.

Pairs winners PETER and RENATE NEUBAUER from Germany had a fabulous routine.  Other class winners included ERNIE TAYLOR (a future top IFBB Pro), GRANT CLEMESHA who also later competed as an IFBB Pro, and JAMES YOUNG and BERNARD BRYAN of England. This massive DVD almost 4 hours long presents the COMPLETE SHOW. You see some posing from every single competitor plus the complete routines from all top 6 competitors plus Overall Posedowns.

2009 NABBA/WFF Austrian Open Championships: The Show.
This was a qualifier contest in bodybuilding and fitness for the recent NABBA Universe in UK and the WFF Worlds in Germany. Some comparisons are included in the Show for the added entertainment of the audience. Being an OPEN CONTEST, the most exciting section of the show was the Men’s Open.

In Class 3, PETR VANIS of the Czech Republic was the winner over a very sharp Christian Klee of Austria.
In Class 2 it was MICHAEL ZIMMERMANN of Austria who had the better of IGOR ILLES of the Czech Republic.
In Class 1, it was another victory to the Czech Republic with a massive RADEK LONC overpowering an outstanding WALTER LETTNER from Austria.
 
In the exciting OVERALL POSEDOWN, it was victory to the local champion MICHAEL ZIMMERMANN who had an edge in hardness and muscularity over the other two class winners Peter Vanis and Radek Lonc, both from the Czech Republic. Great news for Nick Jones, Mr. Everything!
Nick Jones is one of Australia's most active and prolific bodybuilders. He has won the top titles nationally and internationally in a number of different federations.

Now he is about to open the first ever World Gym here in his home city of Adelaide.

This world famous franchise was started by Joe Gold in 1976 in the glory days of Muscle Beach. It saw dozens of famous people training there in the earlier times from Arnold to many of his contemporaries.

Nick plans to open on April 1st, 2010. Any of our GMV visitors to Adelaide can call in to see us at the studio, then go round and see Nick for a great workout! He is only several streets away from us.

The 1999 NABBA World Championships was held in Baden near Vienna, Austria on Saturday June 12th. 1993 EFBB British Championships - The Show.
See all of the action from the biggest EFBB (IFBB) show of the year. Thanks to an enquiry from one of our customers, we discovered that we omitted to mention the 2 big star GUEST POSERS at this contest. Here is what I have just added to the product page for this DVD.

The 1982 NABBA UNIVERSE - AMATEUR & PROFESSIONAL.
This outstanding event was held at the Wembley Conference Centre, London on 18th September, 1982. The main stars of this event were Eduardo Kawak of Lebanon, Kal Szkalak and John Brown from USA, John Terilli from Australia and Terry Phillips from England.
 
In the Women’s International Bikini class the red hot favourite was Jocelyn Pigeonneau who did not let her fans down. John Terilli's class victory was the first ever Universe victory by an Australian competitor.
John later won the NABBA Pro Universe in 1994.

Ed Kawak won the Universe 5 times during his illustrious career and is pictured front cover in his signature pose. This record of 5 titles was later equalled by Eddy Ellwood who won his 5 Universe titles consecutively. Famous American Kal Szkalac was one of the training partners of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the latter stages of his career. Kal similarly had great charisma and was a standout at the Universe with his many fans. Rod Koontz was another highly rated and very popular star from USA.

3 Great Contests in one historic DVD:

The reason I am promoting this classic contest DVD is that today I received a superb photo by Denie of the winners of the 1982 European Couples Championships - Berry de Mey and Erica Mes. Part #1 - 1980 Ms America Bodybuilding & Couples Championships.
This was an exceptional show, sponsored by Gold's Gym of Santa Monica and held in the famous Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Star of the show was a ripped, lean and muscular LAURA COMBES from Florida. Other stars included Claudia Wilbourn, Kay Baxter and Carla Dunlap. Carla went on to win the 1983 Ms Olympia title.

Part #2 - 1982 IFBB European Couples Championships.
This event was held at the Wembley Conference Centre, London as the amateur event at the Mr. Olympia contest which was later that day. It introduced to the world the sensational young BERRY de MEY along with his winning partner in ERICA MES. This Dutch pair took the event by storm with a stunning display of muscle coupled with their elegant posing. Berry went on to be a major IFBB star in the Pro ranks. Erica also competed in the Ms Olympia.

Part #3 - 1982 Mr. Olympia posing highlights.
In this segment we present posing highlights from the finals of the most prestigious contest in the world. Exceptional posing performances by Dennis Tinerino, Roger Walker, Johnny Fuller, Jacques Neuville, Danny Padilla and Boyer Coe. All in rock hard condition.

1980 Mr. Olympia - 2 DVD Set: SPECIAL EDITION.
Now that we are on the eve of our shipping the 2009 Mr. Olympia DVDs (the shipment is currently clearing Customs), let's look back at probably the most talked about Olympia of all time. Held in the famous Opera House in Sydney, Australia, this is the contest in which Arnold made his "comeback" after five years of retirement, and gained his seventh Mr. Olympia title.

Besides Arnold, the line up also included Mike Mentzer, Chris Dickerson, Frank Zane, Boyer Coe, Tom Platz, Casey Viator and many more all-time champions of the sport. This has been the most controversial and the most popular Mr. Olympia DVD of all time! Strictly a hard core contest DVD showing all competitors, shot from centre front stage. Mostly live soundtrack is heard, with special comments from Wayne Gallasch who filmed this historic contest.

The 2010 Schedule of Men's Pro Contests has now been posted by the IFBB Professional League. For all of the contest dates and contact information for all the Pro contests next year, here is your reference.

Pictured left is top IFBB Pro EDUARDO CORREA from Brazil. He is one of the best 202 Class competitors in the world having placed 3rd in the 202 Class Showdown at the Olympia this year.
We shot a gym workout and posing DVD with Eduardo, right after the Olympia. It will be edited for release early next year.

The 2010 Iron Man Pro has been Cancelled!
In a Press release received today from Iron Man Magazine Publisher, John Balik, he reported today that the 2010 Iron Man Pro bodybuilding contest, originally slated to take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010, is being rescheduled for an as of yet undetermined date. The contest, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2009, is one of the longest running most prestigious IFBB Pro shows in the world. It ranked next after the Olympia and the Arnold.

GMV has been involved with the production of the videos and DVDs of the Iron Man Pro for the last 10 years. 1988 NABBA World Championships: Complete Results now posted.

Held in Austria on 17th September, 1988, Gary Lewer and Leisa Campbell (both Aussie Universe winners) were victorious in their respective classes.

Britain's Biggest BB Magazine is now on line.
“The Beef” magazine, claiming the title of Britain’s biggest bodybuilding magazine, now has an on-line edition, duplicating the normal printed version. Britain's own bodybuilding magazine, The Beef has gone from strength to strength in recent months and is about to print its first 164-page issue.

The mag covers all aspects of the sport, from supplements and weight-training, athlete profiles and bodybuilding news, to reporting most contests in the UK, including NABBA and IFBB, plus international events such as the Olympia and Arnold and Arnold Classic.

FIBO DVD Collection revisited.

This time of the year has nothing to do with FIBO, the world's largest bodybuilding and fitness Expo. It is held each Spring in Germany.

Almost every major pro bodybuilder in the world since 1986 has posed at FIBO.

Some stars such as Ronnie Coleman have become so popular, they have appeared there many times over the last 15 years. For many of those years GMV shot and produced the FIBO DVDs.

2009 Sacramento Men’s Pro Grand Prix Results now posted.
Sacramento was once again kind to Toney Freeman as he claimed his 6th Pro GP victory there last Saturday. This was his second victory at the Sacramento Men's Pro Grand Prix, the last men's pro show for 2009. year. The X-Man's height and size means he is always a major threat when he is in top condition.
The top 3 of Freeman, Richardson and Pietrkowicz all qualify for the 2010 Mr. Olympia.

1992 NABBA Australasia - Show: Men & Women.
This was one of the most exciting events on the Australian bodybuilding calendar, as this contest decides the team to compete in the NABBA Universe held in England. An outstanding SERGIO DE SANTIS took out the overall title against a stunning Short Class winner MICHAEL O'MARA, and newcomer CHRIS HOCKING the Tall Class winner.  Amongst the younger competitors, look out for rising star, BRIAN ANTHONY, winner of the Junior (under 21 years) section, and sensational young Teen winner SCOTT FIORINI.

Aussie victory at the 2009 WFF Worlds.

Wayne is just back with his precious camera tapes from the 2009 WFF Worlds in Germany. We are pleased to report that Aussie star KRISTIAN PORTHILL won his class in the Under 35 SuperBody Class and then went on to win the Overall Superbody title. This was our first Men’s Overall Title at the WFF Worlds in this division.

2009 WNBF SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS.
This DVD presents a top class field from some of the best natural bodybuilders in South Australia. The event was staged by Hayzer Cali and once again held in the Scott Theatre, Adelaide on September 12th. The show opened with a great performance from band The Fuzz and a unique show from Nayima Hassan and the girls of the Belly Dance Academy.

Many different classes from Schoolboys through to Masters were competed with the Overall Men’s Bodybuilding Title posedown open to all class winners. This year the OVERALL MEN’S BODYBUILDING TITLE went to superb veteran Billy Bryson. In the Women's Fit Body Class section, the OVERALL Ms. FIT BODY winner was Kate Alderman.

Billy Bryson is a legend in South Australian bodybuilding having won many titles over the years since 1988, and has represented Australia at the NABBA Worlds.

2002 Black & Blue SABBA South Australian Bodybuilding Championships.
Held in the prestigious Norwood Concert Hall, the State Championships attracted a small but exceptionally high quality field. In addition to the show, SABBA life memberships were awarded to long time chairman, Dominic Trimboli, and stalwart of the committee (and banner creator) Peter Leighton.

2002 WFF World Championships: The Men's Pump Room.

The 1988 IFBB Australasia was held in Sydney - and it was a blockbuster, attracting the cream of Australia's bodybuilders. The largest crowd to date was in attendance with enthusiastic fans hanging from the rafters. Ian Riley walked away with top honors in the Men's Over 90kg Heavyweight division. His size, hardness and balance, coupled with a stylish posing display made him the male star of the show.

The Women's Over 52kg winner, blonde bombshell, Melissa Croft, worked hard for her victory. She had good muscular size, great legs and a winning personality. Ms. International, Erica Giesen, gave the appreciative audience more than their money's worth with a sensational guest posing routine lasting more than 5 minutes.

2009 NABBA/WFF South Australian Bodybuilding and Figure Championships.
Held on Saturday 19th of September at the Norwood Town Hall, this contest saw 27 of South Australia's very best physiques take to the stage. Janelle McLean made a triumphant return to the stage, taking out the Women's Figure Over 35 and the Overall Figure title. Tony Griffin overcame multiple NABBA Australia Class 3 winner, Jason Bednarz, to claim the Overall Men's title.

2001 EFBB Amateur Grand Prix.
This top amateur Men’s Event was held in conjunction with the 2001 IFBB English Grand Prix, the winner to get his pro card and compete in the Pro Grand Prix that night. The brilliant winner was ALEX GEORGIJEV of Wales, and we interviewed him backstage after his victory.

The final 14 minutes of the tape includes highlights from the Pro Grand Prix Athletes’ registration and meeting. This is a fun time with closeups of all the guys.

1998 Fitness Man of Finland Contest.
Back in 1998, GMV was proud to present a brand new men’s event from Finland. Held in Helsinki, Finland as part of the KP Ourama Fitness Expo, this competition was designed to test the fitness of each male competitor. The judging was based on a physique symmetry round, plus comparisons - then the guys were tested on their general fitness with competition including chins, dips, and rowing. It was a fantastic concept.

Death of Trish Porter.
We are sad to announce the death one of the most successful female strength athletes in the British Isles. Mother-of-three Trish Porter (38), a champion bodybuilder, died suddenly at her home in Northern Ireland.

During a successful athletic career she won Irish and British powerlifting titles, UK's strongest woman, and was runner-up in the 2008 NABBA Miss Universe Physique Class.

1996 IFSB Ms. Fitness Australia.
The Fitness Generation sponsored the IFSB 1996 Ms. Fitness Australia contest which presented some outstanding Australian women plus Mish McCormack from New Zealand who placed 2nd behind the superb Jodie Low of Victoria. In 3rd place was Nicky Garland.

All rounds are shown in this entertaining DVD. It makes an excellent introduction for those who want to complete in this relatively new category of competition.

This contest was staged in conjunction with the 1996 NABBA Mr & Miss Oceania/Mr & Miss Melbourne event. The Oceania contest represents a grudge match contest with Australia versus New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

1997 NABBA AUSTRALIA: THE WOMEN - PREJUDGING & SHOW.
This year held in the very classy Melbourne Town Hall, two cameras were used to bring you the very best in bodybuilding video entertainment. Our wonderful new digital camera roamed backstage to shoot extensive pump room footage, amongst some of the best bodies in Australia today.

2009 Arnold Strongman Classic.
The 2009 Arnold Strongman Classic saw only the third new champion crowned since its inception in 2002. This year the honors went to Connecticut police officer and World's Strongest Man runner-up, Derek Poundstone, who improved on his second placing in the 2008 Arnold Strongman event. It was a see-saw contest with  the six time Russian National Weightlifting champion, Mikhail Koklyaev, and Poundstone separated by a solitary point at the end of the final event. Poundstone's incredible world record of 15 successful circus dumbell lifts sealed the title over the mighty Russian. Strongman royalty were also present as judges, officials and MCs. These included Magnus Ver Magnusson, Bill Kazmaier, Žydrunas Savickas, Mark Henry, Odd Haugen and David Webster O.B.E.

This DVD is a “must have” for all fans of the strongmen and their incredible feats of power and strength.

1986 NABBA Mr and Ms Britain - The Show.
See the complete EVENING SHOW for both men and women, class by class, from this historic contest. Includes posing by all top 6 finalists, plus all the posedowns and awards and Overall Posedown for the Men. Many of the champions you see in this DVD went on to win other major titles in UK or at the Universe or both. For some it was a stepping stone to future greatness. In the case of Eddy Ellwood, he later went on to win 5 consecutive Universe titles!

See rare footage of the Junior winner ANDY HORNBY who died tragically a year of so later. He was one of the most outstanding Junior competitors we have ever seen or filmed.

Jay Cutler wins 2009 IFBB Mr Olympia.
Saturday, September 26 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jay Cutler beat the odds to become the 2009 Mr. Olympia champion, the first man in the history of the sport to reclaim the title. As reported from our man at the show Wayne Gallasch, Cutler brought his best physique since winning the Olympia in 2006. His stunning improvements shut down his competition from the very first comparison.
